UPCOMING GROUP RUNS

UPCOMING LOCAL RACES

Jul 252012

It’s a road race and a 5K at that, but I’m going.  Steve Day is a trail runner who has run many of the Bradbury Dirt series.  He works with Rick at New Page.   He was training for his first trail marathon, a bit surprised how much the long runs were affecting him.  Turn out he has lymphoma.  Here’s the blurb from the FB page about Steve and the event:

“Our good friend Steve Day was diagnosed with Leukemia at the end of April and immediately began aggressive treatment at Mass General Hospital. Steve is a generous and caring person member of our community. To support Steve and his family we are planning a Day for the Days. In the Morning there will be a 5k in town as well as a kids fun run. An evening Auction with music by Jamie Virgin and Gary Petrie will be held at Black Mountain of Maine. Look for more information to follow or contact Charley or Jennifer LeDuc.”

The good thing is that he is officially in remission.  Unfortunately, he needs to undergo a regimen of chemo for over two years.  Please help a fellow trail runner and really great guy.  If you can’t make the run, you can be a virtual runner and register anyway.  There’s a PDF entry on Facebook:

7 Sisters Trail Race

9:00 am

An out-and-back roller coaster ride along the ridge line of the Mt. Holyoke Range on a single-track trail, with numerous scenic overlooks of the Pioneer Valley including views of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst College, Hampshire College, and the Town of Amherst, the Connecticut River and Northampton.

The course is extremely hilly with 3,700 feet of climb consisting of many steep hills, with hazardous footing in places due to the many sharp basalt rocks that comprise the elevated ridge of the Mt. Holyoke Range. There are five aid stations along the route at approximately 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 miles. We strongly urge you to carry your own water supply since it can be quite warm on race day.

Pack Monadnock 10 Miler

9:00 am

This course was designed to give runners a hill-climb challenge and to test strength and endurance. The race starts on Highland St near Wilton Lnydeborough High School. It runs uphill for the first mile. At the first mile marker, the course flattens out as it turns onto Sand Hill Road (gravel) and remains flat for about one half mile. There will be a rolling uphill grade as Sand Hill road ends and merges onto Davisville Road (paved) through mile three.
